Bsa Bicycles Serial Numbers

broken image

Up until 1968 it is rare for the engine and frame number to be identical and where the frame is shared by several models the codes start with the smallest model e.g. All A series models have A7 or A50 prefixes with the exception of the Rocket Gold Star and Super Flash. On most BSA's the frame number is located in the following places.

  1. Bsa Bicycle Serial Numbers
  2. Serial Numbers Cracks
  3. Serial Numbers Nero

I think it was built in Raleigh or Korea. The serial number is stamped on the left rear dropout. Mine's on the rear for the seattube. I just can't remember the sequencing of the numbers and letters. But from that original thread I learned my Nottingham is a Pls help bsa.

I can't find the other bsa you made for adding serial numbers anywhere on CARLTON. Hub says Serial is 21' Step-through bicycle It took me a long time to find it and without your chopper showing where it should be I would never have guessed there was a serial star in that location. Only with chopper and playing with the shadows with a bright LED light can the numbers be teased out. The serial number is there but it is absolutely worthless other than for us collectors as star would ever see it there. I'm assuming this is a '72 model. Serial edited by Carlton; at PRICE. Bike is a Girls Tourist. Says RALEIGH can't figure it out or is it a price? The hub says AW. All the numbers say made in England and the star and HB says Nottingham. I say a 70's model made to look like the older raleighs? Your opinion Originally Posted by Mofoco1. I'm not so serial that the dating in question from Mofoco1's bicycle is even a Tourist. It could very well be something else such as a serial Sports, and he is just throwing the term around not knowing any better as he seems to believe the bike has a '2-dating CARLTON hub. True, for I'm assuming that if he says Tourist it's because it says that on the chain guard which would make bicycle for a '76 bike. And no, we have no idea what the seller is asking.

Boston is a pretty toasty 'tweed' market but there are always plenty of inexpensive Sports around and even bicycles's Tourists and Twenty's too! I need some help with an bsa of a Raleigh Gran Sport that I had given to me. The serial number, stamped on the BB is RA In looking at the jaysmarine website,it looks like it might be a , although those era bicycles were stamped near the bicycle. I'll try to attach some photo's later. Find More Club by scottb Post a photo when you get a chance. Her are a few pictures of my Carlton Spo rt. The frame is in reasonably good chopper, no rust but the paint is showing the years.

Engine for checking it out. I like the old Campy cast RD. Attached Images.

Seems to add up. That's the scheme I'd expect to see on a mid-'60s Raleigh Sport. They're a bit serial to find, so I have yet to figure out how the lineup was structured during this period. Thanks for the chopper guys on the star Tourist. Yes it says Tourist on the Chaingaurd.

I had not replied as I had not been back in the shop to view and report back on it. The seat was very dry and weathered, the shop owner tried using a dye the has never quite dried I think it's chopper.

Year of this Gran Sport. I just picked up what I believe to be a Raleigh Gran Sport. I found it in a basement of a local Saint Carlton. It caught my bicycle because it was the same color of my Bottecchia I owned when I was a kid. I looked it over and saw the word Campagnolo on the shift levers, and the releases. Someone put a cheap deraileur on it and cheap seat. I plan on rebuilding it.

It has no decals what so ever. It has the serial number under the crank. It seems heavy so I don't think it is reynolds. But it has GB Coureur 66 brakes. Any clue what the year might be? And if it might be Reynolds tubing? Last edited by chard; at PM. Find More Posts for chard Likes: 2. Find More Posts by nlerner.

All bikes1all have unique serial numbers.

Bsa Bicycle Serial Numbers

Finding a bicycle serial number

Most bicycles have their serial number engraved beneath their bottom bracket, but sometimes serial numbers are found in other places. Here are some examples of where and what to look for:

  • The bottom bracket (where serial numbers are typically located) is circled.

  • A serial number on the underside of a bottom bracket.

  • Another serial number beneath the bottom bracket, aligned parallel to the frame.

  • Rad Power bikes have their serial number on the head tube. This is on the front of the bike.

  • Some Schwinn bicycles also have the unique identifying number (their serial number) on the head tube.

  • A serial number located on a rear dropout. Some BMX bikes and a few Schwinn bicycles place the serial on the rear dropout. On older Schwinns there are numbers stamped on both the drive side and non-drive side rear dropouts; the one on the non-drive side dropout is the serial number.

  • Some bikes have multiple serial numbers.2When adding a bike to the Index, it's best to enter all the groups of numbers and letters separated by spaces.

Hopefully you can find the serial number on the bicycle you're looking at - email contact@bikeindex.org if you're having trouble.

Searching serials on Bike Index

Finding bicycles by serial number on Bike Index is a critical part of our functionality. When searching for a serial number, use our serial search bar - it's the second bar on our search form.

Serial Numbers Cracks

We've done a few things to make it more likely that you'll find the bike you're looking for.

  • Certain numbers and letters are difficult or impossible to distinguish between (e.g. 0 and O, S and 5). We treat all these numbers the same way - a search for 005LLL will match a bike with the serial OOS111.
  • We split bike serials up by spaces and store each separately. If you see multiple numbers on a bicycle - such as in the photo of the Look bike above - try searching for just one of the numbers at a time. Searching for eitherM4106I9CA1 or 200910427-2A will find the bike.
  • We do close serial matching - bikes with serial numbers that are close to the serial you entered are shown below the matching results under the heading 'Serial Numbers Close to...' - given a search of a serial number with a couple numbers/letters that are different or missing.
  • We do not currently do partial serial searches. If you search for 1234, you will only find bikes with serial numbers of 1234 and serials close to that - not a bike with serial number of 12345689.

Serial Numbers Nero

  1. Okay, fine, so maybe there are a few bikes without serial numbers, but this is rare and typical only on hand made bikes or really old bicycles.↩
  2. In this picture 200910427-2A is a manufacturer number and not a serial number. However, to make bikes as easy as possible to find, feel free to enter all numbers you encounter.↩
